The Future of Who's Da Boss

Ok, so now that Who's Da Boss 2008 has ended with the victory of Wonder Woman, it's time to start thinking about Who's Da Boss 2009 and the future of this illustrious competition.

First of all, I'm considering making a drastic change to Who's Da Boss. You see, Livejournal is kind of yesterday's news; many of our past regular contributers no longer use their Livejournals (I know that I don't anymore) and we have witnessed a steady decline in participation over the past rounds (I was sad to see it, considering the amount of work I put into the competition, and considering that I'm the first moderator to never miss a day's battle, although I did have the advantage of taking all weekends off). With that in mind, I'm been discussing the competition with a more web-savvy friend of mine, and I'm considering taking Who's Da Boss out of Livejournal and getting it its own dedicated site (probably through a free domain, I certainly don't have the money to spend). A dedicated domain would allow for a lot more in terms of aesthetic representation and technical finesse (for one thing, the site could do the vote-counting for me) and we could add features like tracking your favorite seed's progress and the like (I'm also trying to come up with a way of programming a sweet interactive battle tree in Flash, but for now that's a pipe dream).

I'm not going to make a unilateral decision on this. Who's Da Boss belongs to us all, and if its member want it to remain on Livejournal, then here it will stay. I will, however, say this: if we move it, Who's Da Boss will start over, and I will be willing to reuse seeds from previous Who's Da Boss competitions (though not past Bosses). I think it might also bring in significantly more participation, which we sorely need.

Regardless, the most important thing we all need to do to make Who's Da Boss better is recruit new membership. Are you with me?

Moving it might not be a bad idea... but maybe get an RSS feed going for those of us still using LJ and stuff. :)

I think it would be a great idea. When I first began wandering around the tubes of the internet my two favorite sites were WWWF Grudge Match and Comic Book Universe Battles. Sadly both are now pining for the fjords.

Rather than a complete start over though I would like some acknowledgment of previous Bosses and who they slew to attain glory.

This time I won't wait until near the end to recruit.

It sounds like a good idea to me.

I'm not for it, but not against it either.
I already feel like I have too large of a list of web pages I load per day. Yahoo mail, aol mail, hotmail, gmail, facebook, myspace, my church web page, digg, livejournal, kongregate, pandora, think geek, woot, slickdeals, gizmodo, the allspark, and magicthegathering.com are my current load every day web pages... Thats... 17 pages to load. I like whosdaboss, but I wouldn't add it to my list of daily loads.

IF it does move on, I would love if it had some integration with LJ, or a facebook app, or something.

You have 17 tabs open.

That's nothing. I boot up firefox and a bare minimum of 30 tabs come up.

And since you already have 17, what's wrong with one more? 18 is barely an increase over 17.

That'd be great to have a dedicated Whos Da Boss site! And like salad_barbarian, I'd like to see something like the history of Whos Da Boss, so maybe the fight trees from the previous rounds?

I wouldn't mind it having its own site, but I do disagree with the whole 'old seeds will be reused' bit. Unless it's just a ploy to get Breasts into the thing.

I'm not wild about a move, but that's mostly because whosdaboss comes up in my friend list which makes it less likely that I'll forget. I also like that people are likely to stumble across this by searching through various journals, maybe random-finding will be more or less likely in a separate site.

Regardless, I'm still going to vote as often as I can and I'm going to pimp pimp pimp.
